Volunteer Ministers Mobilize to Deliver Relief After Philippines Typhoons
After back-to-back typhoons struck the Philippines, Scientology Volunteer Ministers took immediate action, bringing relief to thousands by distributing food, cleaning schools, constructing shelters, providing moral support and by delivering training based on The Scientology Handbook.
The Northwest Pacific experiences an average of 28 typhoons each year. They exert a heavy toll on human life and cause billions of dollars in damage.
In late 2025, the Philippines suffered two deadly typhoons within a week. Typhoon Kalmaegi killed at least 232 people in the central provinces. Then Super Typhoon Fung-wong, which was 1,100 miles wide and displaced 1.4 million people in the northern part of the country, immediately followed it. In its wake, the storm left a trail marked by flash floods, landslides, exposed electrical wires and collapsed structures.
Within days, a team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VMs) from the Philippines and Nepal assembled in Manila. The VMs met and worked out a plan of action to deliver VM training to the community, empowering residents with the tools they needed. They then moved to Cebu, one of the worst-hit provinces, where they coordinated with government officials so disaster response teams could bring help to the affected population. VMs partnered with an electrical company, which assigned 200 of their staff to train as VMs to assist on the ground in recovery efforts.

Together, they engaged in projects in severely affected towns and villages across the province. The volunteers worked day and night distributing food, cleaning up schools, providing moral support, building shelters, erecting tents as temporary accommodation and training local residents in VM Technology so they could contribute to relief efforts. Within two weeks, hundreds of VMs had been trained, and thousands of people received the help they needed.
