Crisis to Triumph: Czech VMs Rise as “Yellow Angels”
In the aftermath of Storm Boris and the devastating floods that inundated parts of the Czech Republic in September 2024, Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VMs) in bright yellow shirts quickly became an effective presence in affected towns—volunteers that locals came to call the “yellow angels.” VMs worked alongside firefighters, local officials and citizens to deliver not only physical assistance, but also compassion and effective spiritual aid to those overwhelmed by loss.
From the outset, VMs brought practical help where it was most needed. In Písečná, Jeseník and Česká Ves, they cleared mud, water and debris from homes, often in places reachable only on foot. Their organized approach to surveying damage, preparing plans and executing cleanup earned praise from local fire brigade commanders and enabled affected families to return to their homes sooner.
As winter turned to spring, the VMs stayed in close contact with municipal leaders and asked what was needed next—and the answers were many. What began as flood relief grew into a broader movement of service that included city beautification projects, collaboration with charitable organizations, support with Scientology Study Technology for children and engagement in local volunteer initiatives.
Others took note. At the 24th annual Cena Ď awards ceremony—the “Thank You Award” recognizing volunteers and benefactors in Czech culture and civic life—Volunteer Ministers were honored for their extraordinary contributions after the flooding.
The impact has been both deep and wide. Since September 2024, Czech Volunteer Ministers have contributed thousands of volunteer hours helping families restore homes, aiding fellow charities and responding to new emergencies, such as the severe flooding in Slovakia’s Sliač in late 2025, where a Czech-Slovak VM team delivered supplies, cleared homes and, yet again, came to be known as the “yellow angels.”
From disaster response to ongoing civic collaboration, the yellow angels have become the go-to partners in service in communities such as Prague, Pelhřimov and Brno, where new VM Groups are now active. Ordinary citizens and officials alike speak highly of the VMs—a testament to the effectiveness of Scientology tools and the volunteers’ unbounded dedication to bringing help.
Across the Czech Republic, where tens of thousands of people have already been helped, VMs stand with anyone who calls, demonstrating that Something Can Be Done About It.
