Empowering Students to Know Who They Can Trust
In Mexico, Volunteer Ministers showed students how to recognize trustworthy peers, avoid negativity and build healthy relationships.
The state of Yucatán in Mexico has long faced one of the country’s highest suicide rates, with young people particularly affected. Against this backdrop, and amid a rise in bullying at a school in the town of Homún, Scientology Volunteer Ministers stepped in, determined to make a difference in the students’ lives.
Over 200 young minds participated in a seminar on The Cause of Suppression and The Emotional Tone Scale. These courses give students practical tools to recognize who can be trusted, avoid anti-social influences, surround themselves with supportive people, counter negative pressures in their lives and not fall into the traps set by ill-intentioned individuals.
Students actively engaged, asking questions and exploring how these methods could improve their relationships with peers at school and at home with family.
Volunteer Ministers provided QR code cards for students to continue learning online, giving them ongoing access to the courses after the seminar concluded.

As one graduate of The Cause of Suppression online course said, “As a young person, it’s not always easy to know who you can trust. Everywhere we turn—social media, TV, news, even friends—we receive conflicting messages that can lead us to make the wrong choices. I used to surround myself with people who pulled me down, leaving me drained and frustrated. This course taught me how to recognize the so-called ‘toxic personalities’ and understand who I can truly rely on. Now I know who to befriend, whose advice to follow and what actions will help me thrive. It has changed how I approach every relationship in my life, giving me the clarity and confidence to build connections that uplift and support me every day.”
With these tools, students can now surround themselves with supportive and trustworthy peers, avoid harmful relationships and take the right steps to thrive in their lives.
