Volunteer Minister NewsThe Philippines Goodwill Tour at the Baguio Flower Festival
In the City of Baguio, in the Philippines, February means Flowers.
February is the month of “Panagbenga,” or “season of blooming.” It is also the name for the month-long Baguio Flower Festival, which celebrates not only the beautiful flowers of the region but also the revitalization of the City of Baguio, which was nearly destroyed by a 1990 earthquake. It is in the same spirit of renewal that the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill tour is in Baguio. With seminars, workshops and one-on-one help, their motto is “Something Can be Done About It,” and they help people contend with all the many disasters they face from time to time—big and small. Joining in the celebration of the final days of Panagbenga, the Goodwill Tour volunteers donned their familiar yellow t-shirts, and marched in the parade. Despite a rainy start, a record-breaking million tourists attended the final days of the flower festival this year. The Volunteer Ministers program was developed in the 1970’s by Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, to provide a corps of people who would help their fellow man on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others. Help spread the word!
