A young VM helps a victim of the Tsunami
|
To reach the thousands of people still in need of aid, the training of Volunteer Ministers (VMs) continues; people from schools in the region of Nagappattinam were trained yesterday who then in turn went and trained an additional 50 students on how to do assists.
An Indian doctor hearing of the success the Scientology VMs have had giving assists to hundreds of tsunami survivors, easing their pain and heavy trauma, is activating his colleagues along the coast to come and get trained in the Scientology assist procedure. This is just one of many groups who have also communicated to the VMs that they too want to learn how to do assists and help people.
Following their good work, the VMs in India received a letter of recommendation from the Department of Youth Affairs for helping the young people of the region overcome their fears and upset from the tsunami.
One example of the results that assists produce; a young women hit by the wave was having horrendous nightmares and couldn’t sleep for fear she would see the wave when she closed her eyes. The assist was started, she was extremely agitated and upset, however, the assist was continued and she came out of her upset and started smiling. She has now been able to sleep comfortably without being haunted by the wave and can move on with her life.

VMs helping children to speed their recovery in a local hospital

In Indonesia, over 1300 people have been trained as VMs and here are just some of the successes from the work being done in Medan:
There was a girl in a seriously traumatized state, who had pain throughout the left-hand side of her body. At the beginning of the assist, all she could feel was pain. As the assist proceeded, she said that she felt numb. A translator was necessary to find out what was happening as she started crying profusely. Once she was able to talk again, she told the translator that she was crying because she felt so much relief. She then smiled and thanked everyone. Her husband was then shown how to give her assists to help her further.
A father and son almost drowned by the tsunami, in the hospital in Medan were seen by a VM. Firstly, the VM gave the son, who couldn’t breathe well and was experiencing a lot of discomfort in his chest area, an assist. He was so happy with it he then asked if his father could be given one too. Both father and son are now doing much better spiritually aiding their recovery.
A young girl in the hospital who has a severely broken pelvis bone, was also having constant nightmares. She couldn’t move in bed and was afraid to even close her eyes. After an assist she was able to sleep soundly for the first time since the disaster.
Something special that happened at the Scientology Relief Center in Medan (which is a refuge and a place for people to come who need help) is that a woman who had just arrived by bus from Aceh was looking all around for her five-year old son, lost in the tsunami. She had been desperately hunting for him ever since. He had been taken care of at the Relief Center and she found him there. It was a very emotional moment for everyone around as picked him up and held him tight.
Another little boy who lost all his family and his left leg had naturally been very afraid, shocked and nervous but after a few days of assists he felt much better. He could eat, sleep well and the pain he had in his chest is gone. He now smiles and looks happy.
The VMs in this area were issued a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commanding Officer of the Military garrison for their selfless work at the disaster site. A translation of part of this letter follows:
Certificate of Appreciation
Commanding Officer of Military District
With this letter we would like to show our appreciation and deep thanks to:
INTERNATIONAL SCIENTOLOGY ASSIST TEAM
for your active participation and your sincere dedication in your duty in the recovery of the mental and spiritual trauma of the earthquake and Tsunami in Nanggroe Aceh Darrusallam from the 6 - 16 Jan 2005.

Sri Lanka
Yesterday the VMs held a Dianetics seminar at the Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka as the most senior monk had arranged to have 20 of his students trained. After the first part of the class was done in the morning, he added another 50 monks to the seminar in the afternoon. All 70 Buddhists were able to do Dianetics counseling successfully by the end of the day.
The aim of this temple is to train the monks so they can help their people. Refugee camps are set up around the local monasteries and the idea is that the monks of the country will come to this training temple, learn how to do Dianetics procedures and then return to their temples and help the refugees.
In all areas hit by the Tsunami, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, the Maldives and Madagascar, Scientology Volunteer Ministers and the many hundreds of people they have trained to help their friends and family, stress how much more help is needed on the ground.
The Church of Scientology International is calling for more support and volunteers to help the thousands of people who still need help to get on with their lives and have hope for the future.
If you can help with donations or wish to volunteer time, call (323) 960-1949 or 1-800-435-7498 or e-mail vm@volunteerministers.org

1. Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.
