OVERVIEW

Assists being given by Scientology Volunteer Ministers to survivors of the tsunami in India.

In India, one of the areas demolished by the disastrous wave.
The Volunteer Ministers (VMs) have now trained 2,350 people to give assists. In Banda Aceh, Indonesia, the VMs and some of those they have trained are operating in refugee camps located around the city and in the neighboring villages. An additional team of VMs arrived in India from Britain, while a South African team flew into Madagascar, an area that has so far received relatively little attention in the relief effort.

In addition to the help given directly by VMs, there are now more than 400 people who have been given assists by those they have trained. The successes from assists continue to roll in. Yesterday, a VM gave an assist to a person who was limping and in severe pain. By the end of the assist, not only was the pain gone but the person no longer limped.

Indonesia

A number of physiotherapists have been among those attending assists training workshops, including 30 from hospitals in North Sumatra, and they are eager to now put their new skill to use.

The VMs received a letter of appreciation from a senior military office thanking them for their “active participation and sincere dedication to duty” in the relief effort.

The VMs are providing training both in assists and in the spiritual counseling techniques of Dianetics. One young man who attended a Dianetics workshop stated, “beforehand my mind was troubled and in stress”, but “I now feel very happy and mentally relaxed... I can concentrate.” He is helping the VMs translate the seminars so they can reach more people.

A seminar was given to more than 60 Buddhist monks and student monks at a center near Kandy. This generated much interest with the head monk requesting further seminars.

More than 60 teachers have been trained in assists in the last few days, again to excellent results. A woman who had been in pain for five years told the VM after the assist that the pain was gone.

1. Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.
