SCIENTOLOGY VOLUNTEER MINISTERS (VMs)
UPDATE
Friday 14 January 2005

OVERVIEW

The Volunteer Ministers are continuing to train others in how to administer assists, giving workshops on the subject in the areas affected by the disaster. In Indonesia, medical staffs have been so impressed with the results from assists that one hospital administrator has asked the VMs to train 300 nurses.

Training others to assist people is a vital activity when there are still so many distressed people to help.

Nurses and medical staff are given Scientology assists.

No matter how many VMs are on the ground, there are never enough to deal one-on-one with the number of people needing help. The VMs therefore continually train others in the simple but effective procedure of assists. Yesterday, in Medan, they held a workshop for 40 people, and such training is now a regular feature of the VMs’ activities. As always, the workshop ended with the trainees immediately putting what they have learned to use to help another person.

A man in a hospital in Deli had developed gangrene in his arm, necessitating the removal of the skin. He has been receiving medical treatment along with frequent and regular assists and is rapidly recovering to the point where he is now out of intensive care.

Sri Lanka

The VMs continue to bring people out of distress and help them recover their ability to once again face life and resume the activities necessary to their survival.

One of the locations where the VMs have been ministering assists is a Buddhist temple, where a camp has been established for those made homeless by the disaster. One volunteer, a top international athlete, who is a not a Scientologist, but has learned how to give assists, administered one to a six-month-old baby. Before the assist began, the baby was clearly agitated and one eye had rolled backwards into her head. During the assist, the eye started to return to normal and the baby became visibly calmer. The next day, when the volunteer returned to check on the child’s progress, the baby was fine and appeared to recognize him, looking straight at him with clear eyes and giving him a bright and winning smile.

An army major monitoring the rebel activity, who had accumulated numerous shot wounds after 15 years of soldiering, received an assist. As the procedure continued, he felt pain at the left side of his neck and in his left knee. The VM continued the assist, and after a few minutes the officer looked up and said that the pain had all gone and he now felt very comfortable.

These are just some of the startling results that the VMs are producing on a daily basis.

1. Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.
